Dermatologist and Mohs Micrographic surgeon, Dr. Olufolakemi “Kemi” Awe graduated from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, receiving many scholarships and awards including the award for the top researcher in Biochemistry, and elected to Phi Beta Kappa.

Dr. Awe pursued her MD/PhD at Indiana University in Indianapolis where she worked with one of the leading T-helper cell biologists in the country while pursuing her PhD in Immunology. During her graduate training, Dr. Awe was the recipient of many research awards and a highly competitive National Institute of Health (NIH) grant, which funded her graduate work. She also completed her one-year internship in general surgery.

Dr. Awe completed her dermatology residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) followed by one year as a UAB Dermatology faculty member. She was a lead co-investigator for a NIH-funded project focused on novel topical therapies for improving sun damaged skin and preventing skin cancer.

Following residency, Dr. Awe completed her fellowship in Mohs Micrographic surgery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is a member of the American College of Mohs Surgery, the American Academy of Dermatology, and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. Dr. Awe provides a full range of dermatologic care including medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology services.
